STANDARDS and planning
Standards are an important part of public education. Standards state the areas a teacher should teach in a particular grade and the knowledge a student should achieve. No standards are ever perfect, but they strive to prepare our students for the best outcome. Idaho abides by Common Core for Literacy and Math. Idaho also has Science and Social Studies standards for each grade. Please read below how our classroom plans to achieve these standards this year. Please contact me if you want more details for each area.
Our district uses the reading series called Journeys! We will be using the stories from this series along with numerous chapter books and non-fiction library books to cover all third grade Reading standards.
To develop writing we will use 6 + 1 traits (Conventions, Ideas, Organization, Word Choice, Sentence Fluency, Voice and Presentation). WE will also be exploring writing formats; Narrative, Expository, Opinion, letters, and poetry. Cursive is taught each week.
Through morning work and our grammar work through Jouneys we will cover the grammar standards for 3rd grade.

Our districts curriculum is DMTI Modules. These modules include 8 Units and cover all the Math Standards. Click below to view each area of Math standards.
